IPTV for MAG Box: Portal Setup
MAG boxes work differently from every other device. There is no app to install and no username to type. Instead the box is identified by its MAC address, and we authorise that address against a portal URL.
That means one extra step at our end — you send us the MAC address before we can activate you — but once configured, a MAG box is about the simplest thing to live with.
How MAG differs from other devices
| App-based devices | MAG box | |
|---|---|---|
| Software | You install a player app | Built into the box |
| Credentials | Username and password | Portal URL tied to a MAC address |
| Setup order | Buy, then set up | Send MAC first, then we activate |
| Changing device | Just log in elsewhere | New MAC must be re-authorised |
Send us your MAC address before ordering if you are on a MAG box. Activation cannot happen without it, and this is the most common reason a MAG setup stalls.
Step 1: find your MAC address
The MAC address is a twelve-character code in the form 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. Every MAG box has one and it never changes.
- On the box: printed on a sticker underneath, usually next to the serial number.
- On screen: Settings → System Settings → About, or the boot screen as the box starts.
Send that code to us exactly as shown, including the colons.
Step 2: enter the portal URL
Once we confirm your MAC is authorised, we send a portal URL. To enter it:
- From the main menu, open Settings.
- Choose System Settings.
- Choose Servers, then Portals.
- In Portal 1 Name, type any label you like, such as Duplecast.
- In Portal 1 URL, enter the address we sent, exactly.
- Save, then return to the main menu and restart the box.
On restart the box loads the portal and your channel list appears. First load takes a minute or so while the guide downloads.
Which MAG models work
All common MAG models are supported, including the 250, 254, 256, 322, 324, 349, 351, 420 and 424, along with Infomir’s newer releases.
Older models such as the 250 handle SD and HD comfortably but will struggle with 4K, which is a hardware limit rather than a stream problem. If 4K matters to you, use a recent model or a Firestick instead.
MAG emulators
Some Android apps and set-top boxes emulate a MAG portal by letting you set a virtual MAC address. These generally work, but tell us you are using an emulator so we can authorise the address you have chosen rather than a physical one.
Getting the best results
- Use ethernet. MAG boxes have modest Wi-Fi and many older models have none at all.
- Set the correct time zone in System Settings, or the guide will be shifted.
- Restart after any portal change. MAG boxes only reload the portal on boot.
- Leave the second portal slot empty unless you deliberately use two providers; a stale entry causes load errors.
- Do not update firmware unnecessarily. If the box works, leave it; some updates reset portal settings.
MAG troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Portal not found” or a blank screen | URL typed incorrectly | Re-enter carefully; check for a missing slash at the end |
| Authorisation error | MAC not yet authorised | Confirm we have your exact MAC, including colons |
| Nothing changes after editing the portal | Box not restarted | Fully restart; MAG loads portals only at boot |
| Channels load but freeze often | Wi-Fi, or an older model on 4K | Use ethernet; select HD streams on older boxes |
| Guide empty or shifted | Time zone | Set it in System Settings, then restart |
| Worked before, stopped suddenly | Subscription ended, or firmware reset | Check your end date; re-enter the portal URL |
| Box very slow to navigate | Older hardware with a large channel list | Hide unused categories in settings |
MAG box IPTV FAQ
How do I set up IPTV on a MAG box?
Send us your box’s MAC address so we can authorise it. We then send a portal URL. On the box, go to Settings, System Settings, Servers, Portals, enter the URL in Portal 1, save and restart. Your channels load on reboot.
Where do I find my MAG MAC address?
It is printed on a sticker underneath the box next to the serial number, and it also appears on screen under Settings, System Settings, About. It looks like 00:1A:79 followed by six more characters.
Why does a MAG box need my MAC address?
MAG boxes do not use a username and password. The box identifies itself by its MAC address, so that address has to be authorised against the portal before the box can load any channels.
Which MAG models are supported?
All the common models work, including the MAG 250, 254, 256, 322, 324, 349, 351, 420 and 424. Older models such as the 250 handle SD and HD well but cannot manage 4K, which is a hardware limitation.
My MAG box says portal not found. What is wrong?
Usually the portal URL has been typed incorrectly, often with a missing character at the end. Re-enter it exactly as sent, save, and then fully restart the box, since MAG only loads portal settings at boot.
Can I move my subscription to a different MAG box?
Yes, but the new box has a different MAC address, so send us the new one and we will re-authorise it. It is not automatic in the way logging into an app on a new device would be.
Do MAG boxes support 4K?
Newer models such as the 420 and 424 do. Older models including the 250 and 254 do not, and will struggle if pointed at 4K streams. Select HD versions of channels on older hardware.
Can I use a MAG emulator app instead of a real box?
Generally yes. Tell us you are using an emulator and give us the virtual MAC address you have set, and we will authorise that instead of a physical one.
