IPTV for Smart TV: Samsung, LG and Sony
Most modern Smart TVs run IPTV directly, with no stick, box or extra hardware. What changes between brands is which app store you are using and which players are available in it.
Samsung and LG run their own operating systems with their own stores. Sony, Philips and most other brands run Android TV or Google TV, which means the Google Play Store and a wider choice of apps.

If your TV is more than about six years old, or its app store has nothing suitable, do not fight it. A Firestick costs very little, plugs into any HDMI port and will be faster than the TV’s own processor. This is the single most common piece of advice we give.
How Smart TV apps connect: the device-key model
This is the single thing worth understanding before you start, because Smart TV players work differently from phone and Firestick apps.
On Tizen and webOS you will mostly be using IBO Player, Hot Player or a close equivalent. These do not ask you to type a server URL and password into the television. Instead the app shows a device key and a MAC address, and you attach your playlist from a web page on your phone or computer.
This is good news on a television. Typing a long password with a TV remote is slow and error-prone, and it is where most Smart TV setups go wrong. The dashboard model removes that entirely — and lets you change the playlist later from your phone without touching the TV.
These apps expect an M3U link rather than Xtream Codes details. Ask us for one and we will send it alongside your normal credentials.
Samsung Smart TV (Tizen)
- Press Home and open Apps.
- Search for IBO Player, Hot Player or another IPTV player available in your region.
- Install it and open it.
- The first screen shows your device key and MAC address. Write both down.
- On your phone or computer, go to the activation website shown on that screen.
- Enter the device key and MAC, then add your playlist using the M3U link we sent you.
- Save, then close and reopen the app on the television. Your channels load.
Samsung’s available players change over time. Tell us your exact model and we will confirm which app currently works best on it.
LG Smart TV (webOS)
- Press Home and open the LG Content Store.
- Search for IBO Player, Hot Player or another available IPTV player, and install it.
- Open it and note the device key and MAC address displayed.
- Visit the activation website from your phone or computer, enter the device key and MAC, and add your playlist using the M3U link.
- Reopen the app on the television.
webOS behaves much like Tizen. The app itself is usually free to install, with the activation fee charged separately by the developer.
Sony and other Android TVs
This is the easiest case, because Android TV gives you the full Play Store.
- Open the Google Play Store on the TV.
- Install IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate.
- Open the app and choose Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Enter your server URL, username and password.
No activation fees, no device keys, and both apps are actively maintained. If your TV runs Android or Google TV, use it — there is no reason to add a separate device.
A note on activation fees
IBO Player, Hot Player and most other Tizen and webOS players are free to install but ask for a small one-time payment to activate, typically after a short trial. That charge is made by the app developer and is entirely separate from your Duplecast subscription. We receive no part of it, and we cannot waive or refund it.
If you would rather not pay it, a Firestick or an Android box avoids the issue completely and gives you free, better-maintained apps. That is genuinely the cheaper route if you are buying anyway.
Getting the best picture
- Use ethernet if the TV has a port. Televisions have weaker Wi-Fi than you would expect for their size.
- Turn off motion smoothing for live sport. It creates artefacts on fast movement that look like stream faults.
- Select the FHD or 4K version of a channel where several are listed.
- Keep the TV firmware updated, since player apps depend on the system’s media decoders.
- Restart the TV fully — power off at the plug for ten seconds — if apps become sluggish.
