“IPTV not working” covers half a dozen unrelated faults with completely different fixes. The reason people spend an evening on it is that they start applying solutions before they know which fault they have.
This page is a triage. Three tests, about a minute, and you will know which category you are in — then follow the link to the specific fix rather than guessing.
Run these three tests first
Do them in order. Each one eliminates whole classes of problem, and together they narrow six possibilities down to one.
Test 1: does a second device work?
Play the same channel on a phone, tablet or another TV on the same connection.
| Result | Rules out | Points at |
|---|---|---|
| Works on device two | Your account, the stream, your line | The first device or its app |
| Fails on both | The device | Account, connection or stream |
Test 2: does it work on mobile data?
Turn Wi-Fi off on your phone and try again over the mobile network.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| Works on mobile data, fails on Wi-Fi | Your home network or ISP is blocking or throttling it |
| Fails on both | Your account or the provider’s server |
Test 3: is it everything, or one channel?
Try five channels from different categories — a sports channel, a movie channel, a news channel.
| Result | What it means |
|---|---|
| One fails, the rest are fine | That stream. Nothing at your end will fix it |
| All fail the same way | Account, connection or device |
| All buffer but eventually play | Bandwidth, not a fault |
Now match your symptom
With those three answers, find your row. Each links to the guide that covers that fault properly.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | Where to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Cannot log in at all — “failed to authorize” | Server URL missing its port, or an ISP block | The 9 authorisation fixes |
| Logs in, everything stutters | Wi-Fi, buffer size or decoder | The 11 buffering fixes |
| Channels play, guide is blank | Still downloading, or device clock | Fixing EPG problems |
| One channel black, others fine | That stream is down | Report it — see below |
| Worked yesterday, dead today | Expired plan, or another device streaming | See the two checks below |
| App will not open or crashes | Corrupt cache or a failed update | See app reset below |
| Sound but no picture | Decoder mismatch | Switch the decoder |
| Nothing works on any device | Account or server | Contact your provider |
The two checks people always skip
Has the subscription simply expired?
An expired plan produces an error identical to a technical fault. If everything worked yesterday and you changed nothing, check your renewal date before you troubleshoot anything. It costs one message and saves an evening.
Is someone else already watching?
Most subscriptions permit one stream at a time. A second device starting playback will fail — and so will yours if a device was switched off at the wall without closing the app, leaving a session open at the server.
Clearing a stuck session
- Fully close the app on every other device. Returning to the home screen is not enough.
- Wait two or three minutes for the server-side session to time out.
- Try again.
Resetting a misbehaving app
If the app crashes, hangs on a splash screen, or refuses details you know are correct, reset it properly. Half-measures leave the corrupt state in place.
- Delete the playlist or profile inside the app first. Skipping this leaves the bad entry behind.
- Force-stop the app in device settings.
- Clear its cache. Cache, not data, unless you are ready to set it up again.
- Restart the device at the wall for ten seconds.
- Reopen and add your details fresh, pasting rather than typing.
Device-specific menus are in the setup guides.
One thing not to do: do not reinstall the app as your first move. You lose your settings, you have to retype credentials on a remote, and it fixes almost nothing that clearing the cache would not have fixed. Reinstalling is a last resort, not a first one.
When it is genuinely the provider
Some faults you cannot fix, and recognising them quickly matters:
- One channel down while others work. That stream has failed at source.
- Everything fails on every device and on mobile data. Either the account or the server.
- Total failure during a major live event. Capacity. A well-provisioned service holds up; one that collapses at kick-off is telling you something.
- Guide missing on the same channels for weeks. Unmatched channel IDs at their end.
What to send so it gets fixed quickly
The exact channel name, your device and app, whether other channels work at that moment, and whether it also fails on mobile data. That last detail alone eliminates half the possibilities, and most people never include it.
When the answer is that the service is not good enough
Worth saying plainly: if you are on this page regularly, the issue may not be fixable at your end.
A service that fails every weekend, has channels dead for weeks, or answers support messages in days rather than minutes is not a troubleshooting problem. Our 12-point provider checklist covers how to judge whether to persist or move on, and what actually separates a good service from a bad one.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my IPTV not working?
Run three tests first: try a second device on the same connection, try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and try five different channels. Those three answers narrow it to one of five causes — the device, your network, your account, a single stream, or the provider’s server.
My IPTV worked yesterday and stopped today. What happened?
The two most common causes are an expired subscription and a stuck session from another device. Check your renewal date first, then fully close the app everywhere else and wait a few minutes for the server session to time out.
Why do all my IPTV channels have no picture?
If every channel fails identically, it is your account, your connection or the server rather than the streams. Test on mobile data: if it works there, your home network is blocking it. If it fails everywhere, contact your provider.
One IPTV channel is not working but the rest are fine. What do I do?
Nothing at your end will fix it, because that individual stream has failed at source. Report the exact channel name to your provider and ask to be switched to a backup version.
Should I reinstall my IPTV app?
Not first. Delete the playlist inside the app, force-stop it, clear its cache and restart the device. That resolves nearly everything a reinstall would, without losing your settings or making you retype credentials on a remote.
Why does IPTV work on mobile data but not on my home Wi-Fi?
Your internet provider is blocking or throttling the traffic. It is filtering at the ISP rather than a fault with your subscription, which is why re-entering your details never helps. A VPN or changing your DNS usually resolves it.
How do I know if the problem is my provider?
If it fails on every device, on mobile data as well as Wi-Fi, and other people report the same thing at the same time, it is the provider. A single channel failing while others work is also theirs to fix.
How many devices can use one IPTV subscription at once?
Usually one stream at a time, though you can install it on as many devices as you like. A second simultaneous stream will be refused, which often looks like a fault rather than a limit.
